Music with Mr. B.

This is where students from my music room and their families can see what we're working on, find good music to listen to, open the tools we use in class, and get in touch with me.

Why music

Every child has a part to play.

Music is the one class where everybody makes something at the same time, and it only works if everybody plays their part. Along the way, students practice the same skills the Common Core State Standards ask for in every other subject. They listen closely, read symbols left to right, count and divide time into equal parts, and talk about what they hear using evidence.

It's also where students practice Washington's 21st century skills in every single lesson: collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking. Students who are quiet in a classroom are sometimes loud in here. And students who have a hard time sitting still often do great with a drum in their hands. That's why I think music is for every one of them.

Nobody needs talent to belong in my music room. Everybody gets a part to play.
